A water fountain can make a considerable difference to the charm and tranquility of your garden. Where you once had a simple area, you will now enjoy an outdoor wonderland. You are not the only one who will love the serenity the sounds of the water create; you might also notice an increase in the number of birds and other friendly creatures visiting. All attention will now be focussed on the dazzling fountain.

Keeping Your Large Garden Fountains Tidy

Water fountains will keep working a very long time with regular cleaning and maintenance. It is easy for foreign items to find their way into open-air fountains, so keeping it clean is vital. Additionally, anywhere light from the sun combines with still water, algae can form. In order to avoid this, there are some basic ingredients that can be added into the water, such as vinegar, sea salt, or hydrogen peroxide. There are those who like to use bleach, but that is hazardous to any animals that might drink or bathe in the water - so should therefore be avoided.

Experts advise that the typical garden fountain undergoes a thorough scrubbing every 3-4 months. The first task is to get rid of all the water. When you have done this, scrub inside the water reservoir with a gentle detergent. If there are any little grooves, grab a toothbrush to get each and every spot. Be sure to completely rinse the inside of the fountain to make sure all the soap is gone.

Calcium and fresh water organisms can get inside the pump, so you should disassemble it to get it truly clean. Soaking it in vinegar for a while will make it easier to scrub. Mineral or rain water, versus tap water, is ideal in order to eliminate any build-up of chemicals inside the pump.

And finally, make sure the water level is consistently full in order to keep your fountain working smoothly. Allowing the water level to get too low can result in damage to the pump - and you certainly don't want that!

Anglo-Saxon Grounds at the Time of the Norman Conquest

The Anglo-Saxon way of life was dramatically changed by the introduction of the Normans in the later eleventh century. Engineering and horticulture were skills that the Normans excelled in, trumping that of the Anglo-Saxons at the time of the occupation. But before centering on home-life or having the occasion to consider domestic architecture or decoration, the Normans had to subjugate an entire population. Most often designed upon windy peaks, castles were straightforward structures that allowed their inhabitants to spend time and space to offensive and defensive strategies, while monasteries were rambling stone buildings frequently installed in only the most fecund, broad valleys. Gardening, a peaceful occupation, was unfeasible in these fruitless fortifications. The purest example of the early Anglo-Norman style of architecture existent today is Berkeley Castle. The keep is rumored to have been conceived during the time of William the Conqueror. As a strategy of deterring assailants from tunneling within the walls, an immense terrace encompasses the building. A scenic bowling green, enveloped in grass and bordered by battlements cut out of an ancient yew hedge, makes one of the terraces.

Improve Your Everyday Life with a Water Feature

Your quality of life will be positively influenced by a fountain as it not only provides you a place of peace and calm, but also serves to clean the air.

You might be pleased to learn of all the rewards of being around an indoor or outdoor garden fountain. All over the world coastal cities have large populations which may perhaps be linked to the fact that the human body consists primarily of water. While you could invest in an expensive beach house or plunge into the ocean every day to enjoy the benefits of water, getting a water feature is much easier and less costly!

Your patio, porch, or back yard can be enhanced by installing an outdoor garden fountain. However lovely it already is, your site will be even more gorgeous if you add an outdoor water feature from the wide variety available. If you have a screened porch, consider installing one there, or if not, then on the outside wall above your patio. Make your flower garden an oasis of serenity by adding a beautiful tiered model. Due to the nonstop flow of water in a birdbath fountain, algae and bacteria do not build up, and birds come flocking to the fresh water. Add the finishing touch with the tranquil sound of moving water in your garden.

Water Delivery Solutions in Historic Rome

Previous to 273, when the 1st elevated aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was made in Rome, inhabitants who lived on hills had to journey further down to get their water from natural sources. During this period, there were only two other technologies capable of offering water to elevated areas, subterranean wells and cisterns, which gathered rainwater. Beginning in the sixteenth century, a brand new system was introduced, using Acqua Vergine’s subterranean sectors to deliver water to Pincian Hill. As originally constructed, the aqueduct was provided along the length of its channel with pozzi (manholes) constructed at regular intervals. Even though they were primarily developed to make it possible to service the aqueduct, Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi started using the manholes to gather water from the channel, starting when he obtained the property in 1543. Even though the cardinal also had a cistern to amass rainwater, it didn’t provide sufficient water.

To provide himself with a much more streamlined way to assemble water, he had one of the manholes opened, providing him access to the aqueduct below his property.

The Ideal Multi-Tiered Water Feature for your Yard

Fountains with more than one level are very easy to find, and popular particularly in gardens. These kinds of fountains are common in Italy, Spain, and other Mediterranean countries. While they can be found anywhere, they are most prevalent in the center of building complexes and in popular areas where people gather. Tiered fountains come in a wide variety of designs, from elaborately carved styles to relatively plain types.

Traditional or classic settings are great places for them. It should appear as if the fountain has been part of the decoration since the beginning and should blend in accordingly.
