You might not even be aware of the extent to which a water fountain, whether inside or outside, will enhance your life. People around the world are compelled to go to coastal cities and major bodies of water, most likely influenced by the fact that our bodies have a high water content. While there are many extravagant ways to incorporate the benefits of water into your daily life (like investing in a beach house!), a much more accessible option is to install a water feature in your home.

The installation of an outdoor garden fountain to any porch, terrace, or veranda will make a huge difference to your enjoyment of the space. Even if you are already content with your outdoor area, the addition of one of the many outdoor fountains available will make you appreciate it even more. A great idea is to install one on the wall of your screened porch, or perhaps outside as part of your outdoor decor. Add elegance and the lovely sound of babbling water to your flower bed with a tiered model. Due to the continuous flow of water in a birdbath fountain, algae and bacteria do not build up, and birds come flocking to the pure water. The final detail your garden area needs to be an oasis of peace is the sound of water in motion.

A Smaller Garden Space? You Can Have a Water Fountain too!

The reflective properties of water means it can make small spaces look larger than they are. In order to generate the optimum reflective properties of a water element or fountain, it is best to use dark materials. If your purpose is to showcase your new feature at night, underwater lights in varied colors and shapes will do the trick. Sunshine is indispensable to power eco-lights during the day time while underwater lights are great for night use. Natural therapies use them because they release a calming effect which helps to relieve stress as well as anxiety.

The greenery in your garden is the perfect place to situate your water feature. Ponds, man-made rivers, or fountains are just some of the ways you can you can make it become the central feature on your property. The versatility of water features is that they can be installed in large backyards as well as in small verandas. The best way to perfect the ambience, place it in a good place and use the right accompaniments.

Anglo Saxon Grounds at the Time of the Norman Conquest

The introduction of the Normans in the latter half of the eleventh century significantly transformed The Anglo-Saxon ways of living. At the time of the conquest, the Normans surpassed the Anglo-Saxons in building design and cultivation. But yet there was no time for home life, domestic architecture, and adornment until the Normans had conquered the whole region. Castles were more fundamental designs and often constructed on blustery hills, where their tenants spent both time and space to exercising offense and defense, while monasteries were considerable stone buildings, mostly located in the widest, most fertile hollows. Gardening, a quiet occupation, was unfeasible in these unproductive fortifications. The best specimen of the early Anglo-Norman style of architecture existent presently is Berkeley Castle. The keep is reported to have been invented during the time of William the Conqueror. An enormous terrace encompasses the building, serving as an impediment to attackers wanting to dig under the castle walls. On one of these parapets is a scenic bowling green covered in grass and bordered by an aged hedge of yew that has been designed into coarse battlements.

Keep Your Outdoor Wall Fountain Tidy

Water fountains will keep working a very long time with scheduled cleaning and maintenance. It is important to clean it out and take out any debris or foreign elements that might have fallen into or onto it. Additionally, anywhere light from the sun mixes with still water, algae can appear.

Stir hydrogen peroxide, sea salt, or vinegar into the water to avoid this particular issue. Bleach can also be mixed into the water, but this is not the ideal option as it can harm birds or other animals.

Every three-four months, garden fountains should go through a decent cleaning. Before you can start washing it you must empty out all of the water. Next use gentle and a soft sponge to clean the interior of the reservoir. Feel free to use a toothbrush if helpful for any tiny crevasses. Do not leave any soap deposits inside of or on the fountain.

Make sure you get rid of any calcium or plankton by taking the pump apart and washing the inside carefully. Letting it soak in vinegar for a couple of hours first will make it alot easier to clean. If you want to remove build-up in your fountain, use rain water or mineral water rather than tap water, as these don’t contain any components that will stick to the inside of the pump.

Finally, be sure to have a quick look at your fountain daily and add water if you see that the level is depleted. If the water level slides below the pump’s intake level, it can hurt the pump and cause it to burn out - something you don't want to happen!

Santa Maria in Cosmedin: A Roman Fountain Worth Seeing

Archaeologists and restorers on the lookout for pagan and Christian relics in Rome have stumbled upon a wealth of them in the area of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin. The Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth} is a recognized marble sculpture found in the portico of the nearby basilica. Built in 1719, the Santa Maria in Cosmedin water fountain was relatively unknown and situated far from sight making it difficult to visit. It was said that there was nothing worth seeing in this area because it was bleak and desolate making it an unfriendly place to visit. As part of an effort to refurbish the piazza outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, the Italian architect Carlo Bizzaccheri was instructed by Pope Clement XI to take on the job. The job of laying down the church’s foundation began on August 17, 1717. After blessing of the first stone, medallions bearing the images of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water, were thrown into the foundation.

How Much Do Animals Enjoy Water Features

Be sure to take your pet into consideration when you are considering installing a water feature.

Pets such as dogs could mistake your freestanding fountain with a large pool to cool down in or a pond from which to drink. Your pets will not be negatively influenced if you add a wall fountain to your property. You may need to think about where you will locate the fountain as birds may take it as a bathing pond. Installing a birdbath in your backyard is the optimal solution if you want to attract birds. The indoor use of wall water fountains is altogether possible if wish to prevent these problems. These types of fountains are ideal for dental and medical practices, not to mention grand estates.
