You might not even be aware of the extent to which a water fountain, whether inside or outside, will improve your daily life. All over the world coastal cities have large populations which may perhaps be linked to the fact that the human body is made up largely of water. While there are many extravagant ways to integrate the benefits of water into your daily life (like investing in a beach house!), a much more attainable option is to put a water feature in your home.

Your patio, porch, or back yard can be upgraded by getting an outdoor garden fountain. However lovely it already is, your site will be even more gorgeous if you add an outdoor water element from the wide variety available. It can be a beautiful addition to the wall of your enclosed porch or outdoors above the veranda. Add charm and the lovely music of trickling water to your flower bed with a tiered model. Birds love birdbath fountains because the cascading of the water ensures that it remains clean and does not accumulate bacteria and algae. Perfect your garden area with the serene sound of flowing water.

The Ideal Tiered Water Feature for your Yard

Fountains with multiple levels can be seen just about anywhere and have been featured in gardens for many years. You can see many of these fountains in Italy, Spain, and other Southern European countries. While they can be located anywhere, they are most prevalent in the center of building complexes and in popular areas where people get together. All tiered fountains are alluring, although some have much more lavish carvings than others.

While they can be found just about anywhere, they seem particularly at home in more classic environments. The fountain should seem as old as the rest of the space and fit in accordingly.

Do Pets Like Outdoor Fountains?

Give some thought to how your pet may respond to a water feature before you get one. A pet dog or cat may think that a stand-alone fountain is a big pool or a drinking pond. Your treasured pets will probably take well to a water element in your yard. You should take into account the fact that birds may think they have found a new place to bathe when they see your fountain so think carefully where you put it. If you want to purposely entice birds, however, installing a birdbath is a good solution. Wall water features are great for indoor use as well if you want to avoid these problems. Dentists’ and doctors’ practices as well as stately homes are just a few of the places where you can find these types of fountains.

Early Water Delivery Techniques in Rome

Previous to 273, when the very first elevated aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was established in Roma, citizens who resided on hillsides had to go further down to gather their water from natural sources. When aqueducts or springs weren’t easily accessible, people living at greater elevations turned to water pulled from underground or rainwater, which was made available by wells and cisterns. Starting in the sixteenth century, a newer program was introduced, using Acqua Vergine’s subterranean segments to deliver water to Pincian Hill. The aqueduct’s channel was made reachable by pozzi, or manholes, that were positioned along its length when it was 1st constructed. The manholes made it less demanding to maintain the channel, but it was also achievable to use buckets to remove water from the aqueduct, as we saw with Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi when he possessed the property from 1543 to 1552, the year he passed away. Whilst the cardinal also had a cistern to accumulate rainwater, it couldn't provide a sufficient amount of water. To provide himself with a more useful system to assemble water, he had one of the manholes opened, offering him access to the aqueduct below his property.

What Are Self-Contained Fountains

Self-Contained fountains are economical and simple to install and are therefore in demand. Since all materials are included with the fountain, no extra parts are required. There is another use for the label “self-contained”, a reference to a fountain that has its own water reservoir.

If you are shopping for an easy-to-install water fountain for a patio or porch, a self-contained model is definitely for you. They are easily transportable too in case you later decide to move it somewhere else.

The place you want to situate your fountain will need to be level, so your landscaper will need to first determine if this is the case. Do not worry if the land is not even, your landscaper can always even it out. The time has come to put your water feature where you want it and fill it with water. It is finally time to plug it in using either an electrical socket, a solar panel, or batteries.

Anyone who does not have direct access to a water source or external plumbing should look into a self-contained fountain. Many fountain owners want them to be the focal point of their yards and put them right in the center, although they can really go anywhere in the garden. Cast stone, metal, ceramic, and fiberglass are just a few of the materials used to produce them.

Keeping Your Wall fountain Tidy

Appropriate care and regular cleaning are important to the longevity of water fountains. A common concern with fountains is that they tend to collect dirt and debris, so it is essential that you keep it free from this. On top of that, algae can be a challenge, as sun hitting the water enables it to form easily. To avoid this, take vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or sea salt and add straight into the water. Another option is to mix bleach into the water, but this action can harm wild animals and so should really be avoided.

No more than three-four months should really go by without an extensive maintaining of a fountain. The initial step is to get rid of all the water. When you have done this, wash inside the water reservoir with a gentle detergent. Feel free to use a toothbrush if necessary for any tiny crevasses. Make sure all the soap is totally washed off.

It is highly recommended taking the pump apart to better clean the inside and remove any plankton or calcium.

Letting it soak in vinegar for a couple of hours first will make it alot easier to clean. If you want to minimize build-up in your fountain, use rain water or mineral water versus tap water, as these don’t contain any ingredients that might stick to the inside of the pump.

One final tip for keeping your fountain in top working order is to check the water level every day and make sure it is full. If the water level falls below the pump’s intake level, it can damage the pump and cause it to burn out - something you don't want to happen!
