Tiered Water Elements for your Lawn

ft_196__04593.jpg Fountains with more than one level are very easy to find, and common above all in gardens. The nations in the southern part of Europe tend to have a lot of these types of fountains. Piazzas and building courtyards are very popular places where you will find tiered fountains. Tiered fountains come in a wide array of designs, from elaborately carved styles to relatively basic types.

People love to showcase them in areas having a more traditional look and feel. The fountain should blend right into the environment as if it has been there since the beginning.

Do Pets Enjoy Garden Fountains?

Take into account how your cat or dog may react to a water feature before you get one. Pets such as dogs could mistake your freestanding fountain with a big pool to cool down in or a pond from which to drink. Your treasured pets will probably take well to a fountain feature in your outdoor area. You should consider the fact that birds may think they have found a new place to bathe when they see your fountain so think carefully where you put it. Putting a birdbath in your yard is the perfect answer if you want to attract birds.

Setting up a wall water fountain inside your house is a good solution if you want to avoid such concerns. Grand mansions, in addition to dentist’ and doctors’ practices, often have such fountains on display.

How Feng Shui Make Your Yard into A Good Place to Think

Experience the health benefits of feng shui by incorporating its design elements into your yard.

Size is not the most important factor when incorporating feng shui design to your garden. It is fabulous to have a huge space to work with, but do not worry if the area is small since you can still introduce feng shui design.

The same tools you employ to incorporate feng shui design into your home can be used in the garden. Your yard's bagua, or energy map, is an extension of your house's bagua, so it is essential to figure out your home’s first.

It is also important to know the five elements in the theory of feng shui and how best to use each one to make the most of its energy.

An example of this is that Earth is the feng shui element you should have in the northeast part of your garden because that section of your garden connects to the energy of personal growth and self-cultivation. This could be the optimal spot to put a meditative Zen garden with some beautiful stones because these represent the Earth element in feng shui.

People thinking about adding a water feature into their garden should place it in one of these feng shui areas: North (career & path in life), Southeast (money and abundance), or East (health & family).

The Many Designs in Backyard Water Features

Gardens are great places to pause from the day-to-day grind and get some fresh air and appreciate nature. There is nothing as wonderful as one to relax in, something you can keep in mind when you are working to get it set up. Investing in a beautiful garden is good, as it will boost the “curb appeal” and value of your home. There are many ways to boost the visual beauty of a yard, like adding flowers and plants, artwork, an attractive pavement, or a water feature.

The visual appeal of any garden can be greatly improved by merely adding a water fountain. Where you once had a basic area, you will now have an outdoor wonderland. The trickling water of your fountain will not only give you a calming oasis, it will also attract wild birds and other friendly local critters. Your fountain will promptly turn into the centerpiece of your garden or yard.

The Influence of the Norman Invasion on Anglo-Saxon Garden Design

The Anglo-Saxon way of life was dramatically changed by the arrival of the Normans in the later eleventh century. Engineering and horticulture were attributes that the Normans excelled in, trumping that of the Anglo-Saxons at the time of the occupation. But yet there was no time for home life, domestic design, and decoration until the Normans had overcome the whole realm. Monasteries and castles served separate functions, so while monasteries were massive stone structures constructed in only the most fruitful, wide dales, castles were set upon blustery knolls where the residents focused on learning offensive and defensive techniques. The calm method of gardening was not viable in these bleak bastions. The early Anglo-Norman style of architecture is symbolized in Berkeley Castle, which is perhaps the most unscathed sample we have. The keep is said to date from William the Conqueror's time period. A large terrace recommended for strolling and as a way to stop enemies from mining below the walls runs about the building. A scenic bowling green, covered in grass and bordered by battlements cut out of an ancient yew hedge, forms one of the terraces.

The Fascinating Roots of the Fountain

As the leader of the Catholic Church, the scholarly Pope Nicholas V (1397-1455} decided to commission translations of invaluable writings from their original Greek into Latin. In addition, embellishing the city and making it the worthy capital of the Christian world was at the heart of his ambitions. Beginning in 1453, the ruined Aqua Vergine, an ancient Roman aqueduct which had brought clean drinking water into the city from many miles away, underwent repair at the bidding of the Pope. Nicholas V also reinstated the Roman custom of installing lavish fountains, referred to as mostras, to mark the end point of the aqueduct. The architect Leon Battista Alberti was commissioned by him to build a wall fountain where we now find the breath-taking Trevi Fountain. The aqueduct he had rebuilt included changes and extensions which eventually allowed it to supply the necessary water to the Trevi Fountain as well as the famed baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza Navona.
