A Fabulous Illustration of Roman Talent: The Santa Maria in Cosmedin Fountain

Incredible discoveries of both Christian and pagan roots have been made by archaeologists and restorers in the area around Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome. The nearby basilica is mainly renowned for the marble sculpture known as the Bocca della Verità, (Mouth of Truth) located in its portico. Since the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain (1719) was situated off the beaten track, it remained relatively obscure. It was said that there was nothing worth seeing in this area, as it was abject and abandoned making it an unfriendly place to visit. It was then that the Italian architect Carlo Bizzaccheri was mandated by Pope Clement XI to erect a fountain in the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in an effort to make the area more popular. August 11. 1717 was the date when work on the church’s foundation began. Medals bearing the imagery of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water”, were thrown in the foundation following the consecration of the first stone.

Vitalize Your Garden with the Aid of Feng Shui

When applied to your yard, feng shui design will draw its healthy energy into your home as well.

Size is not the main factor when incorporating feng shui design to your garden.

A huge area is great for those privileged enough to have it, but a smaller area can still be useful in feng shui design.

The same tools you employ to incorporate feng shui design into your living space can be used in the garden. The initial task is to know the bagua, or energy map, of your home, as your garden’s bagua will be an extension of that.

There are five elements in feng shui theory, and you should know how to use each of them to intensify the energy.

The northeast corner of your garden, for instance, connects to personal growth and self-cultivation energy, and Earth is the feng shui element that is important to use it. This could be the ideal spot to put a meditative Zen garden with some attractive stones because these represent the Earth element in feng shui.

A water element is a perfect add-on to the following feng shui areas: Southeast (money & abundance), East (health & family), and North (career & path in life).

How Many Different Types of Backyard Water Features Are There?

A garden can be a little oasis, providing you a serene place to stop and enjoy some outdoor time. Although there is a lot of work involved in getting a new one designed and built, it is worth the effort for anyone who will be using it.

A beautiful garden will augment any property value, as “curb appeal” is important to the market value. There are many ways to boost the visual charm of a yard, like adding flowers and plants, artwork, an attractive pavement, or a water feature.

A significant enhancement to your garden can be realized by putting in a water fountain. Where you once had a plain area, you will now enjoy an outdoor wonderland. The sounds of a water fountain make for a calming environment, not just for people but for the birds and other local wildlife that it will invite. The rest of the garden will suddenly become just background to the lovely new fountain.

A Wall Fountain to Match Your Decor

A small patio or a courtyard is a great spot to situate your wall fountain when you seek peace and quiet. Even a little space can include a custom-made one. Both the stand alone and mounted models need to have a spout, a water basin, internal tubing, and a pump. You have many models to a lot to choose from whether you are in search of a traditional, contemporary, classical, or Asian style.

Normally quite large, freestanding wall fountains, also referred to as floor fountains, have their basins on the floor.

A stand-alone fountain can either be integrated onto a wall already in existence or built into a wall under construction. Incorporating this kind of water feature into your landscape adds a cohesiveness to the look you want to achieve rather than making it seem as if the fountain was merely added later.

Anglo-Saxon Grounds During the Norman Conquest

The advent of the Normans in the latter half of the eleventh century greatly modified The Anglo-Saxon ways of living. At the time of the conquest, the Normans surpassed the Anglo-Saxons in building design and cultivation. But before focusing on home-life or having the occasion to think about domestic architecture or decoration, the Normans had to subjugate an entire society. Because of this, castles were cruder structures than monasteries: Monasteries were often significant stone buildings set in the biggest and most fecund valleys, while castles were erected on windy crests where their citizens dedicated time and space to tasks for offense and defense. Gardening, a quiet occupation, was unfeasible in these fruitless fortifications. Berkeley Castle is probably the most intact model in existence today of the early Anglo-Norman style of architecture. The keep is reported to have been conceived during the time of William the Conqueror. A spacious terrace intended for strolling and as a means to stop attackers from mining below the walls runs about the building. One of these terraces, a charming bowling green, is covered grass and flanked by an aged yew hedge cut into the form of crude battlements.
