Liven Up Your Daily Life with a Water Feature

Having a fountain around can optimize your day-to-day life as the soothing sound of the water provides a sense of tranquility, and the movement of the water serves to clean and moisten the air.

You might not even be aware of the degree to which a water fountain, whether inside or outside, will improve your daily life. People around the world flock to coastal cities and major bodies of water, most likely driven by the fact that our bodies have a high water content. While you could invest in an expensive beach house or plunge into the ocean every day to reap the benefits of water, getting a water feature is much easier and more affordable! 526_floral_open__31353.jpg

Upgrade any outdoor area by adding a gorgeous outdoor garden fountain. You might be pleased how your beautiful outdoor space can be even more attractive with one of the many outdoor water elements on the market. A terrific idea is to put one on the wall of your screened porch, or perhaps outside as part of your outdoor decor. Add charm and the lovely sound of flowing water to your flower bed with a tiered model. Birds love birdbath fountains because the flow of the water ensures that it stays clean and does not build up bacteria and algae. The hypnotic sound of trickling water is the secret touch your garden area needs to become an oasis of peace.

Aqueducts: The Answer to Rome's Water Challenges

Rome’s very first elevated aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was built in 273 BC; prior to that, inhabitants residing at higher elevations had to depend on local creeks for their water. Outside of these aqueducts and springs, wells and rainwater-collecting cisterns were the lone techniques available at the time to supply water to locations of higher elevation. In the very early sixteenth century, the city began to utilize the water that ran below ground through Acqua Vergine to supply drinking water to Pincian Hill.

Pozzi, or manholes, were built at standard stretches along the aqueduct’s channel. The manholes made it more straightforward to thoroughly clean the channel, but it was also possible to use buckets to remove water from the aqueduct, as we witnessed with Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi when he operated the property from 1543 to 1552, the year he died. The cistern he had constructed to obtain rainwater wasn’t satisfactory to meet his water needs. That is when he made the decision to create an access point to the aqueduct that ran under his property.

Outdoor Wall Fountains: The Many Styles on the Market

Small patios or courtyards are an ideal place to install wall fountains since they add style to an area with limited space. Conventional, antique, contemporary, or Asian are just some of the styles you can choose from when looking for an outdoor wall fountain to your liking. While there are innumerable prefabricated ones on the market, you may need a customized fountain if none of these are appealing to you.

The two kinds of fountains available to you include mounted and stand-alone models. Small, self-contained mounted wall fountains can be installed on any surface. Wall fountains made of resin (resembling stone) or fiberglass are typically light so they can be easily hung. In large stand-alone fountains, otherwise referred to as wall fountains, the basin is set on the ground with the smooth side positioned against a wall. Water features such as these are ordinarily made of cast stone and have no weight limitations.

Landscape professionals often propose a custom-built fountain for a brand new or existing wall. Employing an expert mason is your best option to construct the basin and install the essential plumbing. You will need to incorporate a spout or fountain mask into the wall. A tailor-made wall fountain blends into the landscape instead of standing out because it was a later addition, which adds to a cohesive look.

Keep Your Garden Fountain Clean

It is important to carefully maintain water fountains for them to work properly. A common problem with fountains is that they tend to accumulate dirt and debris, so it is essential that you keep it free from this. Additionally, anywhere light from the sun combines with still water, algae can appear. Mix hydrogen peroxide, sea salt, or vinegar into the water to avoid this particular problem. Some people opt for adding bleach into the water, but the drawback is that it harms wildlife - so it should be avoided.

Experts suggest that the typical garden fountain undergoes a thorough cleaning every three-four months. The first task is to get rid of all the water. Next use gentle and a soft sponge to clean the innner part of the reservoir. A useful tip is to use a toothbrush if there are small hard-to-reach spots. Do not leave any soap deposits in or on the fountain.

Make sure you get rid of any calcium or plankton by taking the pump apart and washing the inside thoroughly. Soaking it in vinegar for a while will make it easier to scrub. Neither rain water nor mineral water contain components that will build up inside the pump, so use either over tap water if possible.

And finally, make sure the water level is continuously full in order to keep your fountain running smoothly. Low water levels can ruin the pump - and you do not want that!

A Peek into the Beginnings of Wall Fountains

As the head of the Catholic Church, the scholarly Pope Nicholas V (1397-1455} decided to authorize translations of important writings from their original Greek into Latin. In addition, embellishing the city and making it the true capital of the Christian world was at the center of his ambitions. Beginning in 1453, he called for the reconstruction of the Acqua Vergine, a decaying Roman aqueduct which had transported clean drinking water into the city from eight miles away. Nicholas V also revived the Roman convention of installing grand fountains, referred to as mostras, to mark the end point of the aqueduct. The Trevi Fountain now occupies the area formerly filled with a wall fountain crafted by Leon Battista Albert, an architect employed by him. The aqueduct he had reconditioned included modifications and extensions which eventually allowed it to supply the necessary water to the Trevi Fountain as well as the renowned baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza Navona.

Presenting Self-Contained Backyard Water Fountains

Given that contained fountains are both low-cost and easy to install, they are very trendy. All of the components are provided with the fountain even the plumbing and pump. Fountains that come with their own water source are also referred to as “self-contained”.

If you are looking for an easy-to-install water fountain for a patio or porch, a self-contained model is definitely for you.

Their versatility is also a plus, as they are very easy to move around.

The spot you want to situate your fountain will need to be even, so your landscaper will need to first decide if this is the case. Do not worry if the land is not flat, your landscaper can easily even it out. You are now set to set up your water feature and fill it with water. It is now time to plug it in using either an electrical socket, a solar panel, or batteries.

If you need a fountain that will not require an outside water source or additional plumbing, a self-contained fountain is ideal. Many fountain owners want them to be the focal point of their yards and position them right in the center, although they can actually go anywhere in the garden. There is a variety of materials that can be used to craft them including cast stone, metal, ceramic, and fiberglass.
