Dogs, Cats and Garden Fountains

Think about how your cat or dog may respond to a water feature before you buy one. kay-71920__15459.jpg Pets such as dogs could mistake your freestanding fountain with a large pool to cool off in or a pond from which to drink. Consider installing a water fountain in your backyard since it is a feature that will affect your much loved pets favorably. You may need to think about where you will locate the fountain as birds may take it as a bathing pond. Install a birdbath if your objective is to draw birds to your yard. Setting up a wall water fountain inside your house is a good alternative if you want to avoid such troubles. It is common to find these kinds of fountains in dental or medical offices as well as in luxurious homes.

Keeping Your Garden Fountain Clean

Water fountains will keep working a very long time with scheduled cleaning and maintenance. A common issue with fountains is that they tend to accumulate dirt and debris, so it is essential that you keep it free from this. Also, algae has a tendency to build up any place natural light meets water. Either sea salt, hydrogen peroxide, or vinegar can be mixed into the water to prevent this issue. Another option is to stir bleach into the water, but this action can harm wild animals and so should really be avoided.

Every 3-4 months, garden fountains should undergo a serious cleaning. Before you can start washing it you must drain out all of the water. When you have done this, scrub inside the water reservoir with a gentle detergent. If there are any little grooves, use a toothbrush to reach every spot. Be sure to completely rinse the inside of the fountain to make sure all the soap is gone.

Calcium and fresh water organisms could get inside the pump, so you should really disassemble it to get it truly clean. You might want to let it soak in vinegar for a few hours to make it much less difficult to scrub. If you want to minimize build-up in your fountain, use rain water or mineral water versus tap water, as these don’t contain any ingredients that will stick to the inside of the pump.

Finally, be sure to have a quick look at your fountain daily and add water if you notice that the level is depleted. If the water level falls below the pump’s intake level, it can damage the pump and cause it to burn out - something you do not want to happen!

Style Options for Exterior Water Fountains

A garden can be a little sanctuary, providing you a serene place to stop and enjoy some outdoor time. If you are going to spend a lot of time in yours, it is worth the work it takes to do it correctly. Both the “curb appeal” and the value of your property will be driven up when you install an eye-catching garden. There are many ways to boost the visual charm of a yard, like adding flowers and plants, artwork, an attractive pavement, or a water feature.

A significant improvement to your garden can be realized by installing a water fountain. Where you once had a plain area, you will now have an outdoor wonderland. The trickling water of your fountain will not only give you a calming oasis, it will also attract wild birds and other friendly local creatures. Before you know it, the whole entire garden or yard will have a new centerpiece.

A Small Garden Space? You Can Own a Water Fountain too!

Since water causes a reflection, smaller spaces will appear bigger. Water features such as fountains benefit from the reflective attributes coming from dark materials. If your intention is to highlight your new feature at night, underwater lights in various colors and shapes will do the trick. Eco-lights powered by sunlight can be used during the day whereas you can use lights to enhance your backyard at night. Natural therapies use them because they exude a calming effect which helps to relieve stress as well as anxiety.

The foliage in your yard is a very good spot to fit in your water feature. People will be focused on the pond, artificial river or fountain in your yard. Water features make great additions to both large gardens or little patios. The best way to perfect the atmosphere, place it in a good place and use the right accompaniments.

Enliven Your Everyday Life with a Water Feature

Your quality of life will be absolutely influenced by a fountain as it not only offers you a place of peace and calm, but also serves to clean the air.

Both an indoor and an outdoor garden fountain will reward you in ways you might not even know. Water makes up a large percentage of our body composition, and populations world-wide tend to gravitate towards coastal areas. Water is essential for life, and a water feature can provide the benefits of water in a simple and affordable way.

If you want to make your porch, patio, or back yard even more delightful, think about purchasing an outdoor garden fountain. Outdoor water elements can further elevate even the most beautiful space. It can be a lovely addition to the wall of your enclosed porch or outside the house above the veranda. If you have a flower bed, look into installing a beautiful tiered type there to add a sense of tranquility. You will notice lots of birds heading to your garden if you add a birdbath fountain, as the water stays fresher than still water since it is constantly flowing. The enchanting sound of trickling water is the final touch your garden area needs to become a haven of peace.

Santa Maria in Cosmedin: A Roman Fountain Worthy of Experiencing

Archaeologists and restorers on the lookout for pagan and Christian artifacts in Rome have stumbled upon a wealth of them in the area of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin. The Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth} is a renowned marble sculpture found in the portico of the nearby basilica.

The location of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain (1719) was not in a well-known area and was, therefore, not often visited. Since the nearby area was depressing and mostly abandoned, visitors were not particularly interested in visiting it. In order to modernize the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Pope Clement XI commissioned an Italian architect by the name of Carlo Bizzaccheri to create a water feature for the area. August 11. 1717 was the date when work on the church’s infrastructure commenced. Medallions bearing the imagery of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water”, were thrown in the foundation following the consecration of the first rock.
