The Origins of Modern Wall Fountains

The Roman academic Pope Nicholas V (1397-1455) decided to have hundreds of ancient Greek writings translated into Latin. Continuing in his quest to make the city deserving of being called the seat of the Christian world, he resolved to exalt the beauty of the city as well. a-564__81834.jpg Beginning in 1453, he called for the restoration of the Acqua Vergine, a decaying Roman aqueduct which had transported clean drinking water into the city from eight miles away. The mostra, a monumental commemorative fountain constructed by ancient Romans to mark the point of arrival of an aqueduct, was a custom also revived by Nicholas V. The fascinating background of the Trevi Fountain go back to an older water fountain he had commissioned to the architect Leon Battista Alberti. The changes, as well as the extensions included in the repaired aqueduct, ultimately made it possible to provide the Trevi Fountain and the well-known baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona with the necessary water to function.

What You Will Require for an Outdoor Water Element

A lot of people forget the need for an electrical socket or water source close by when considering where to put their garden fountain. The thrill of owning one occasionally causes people to overlook the technical details when setting it up for the first time. Since standard power cords are only 12 feet in length, you might need to attach an extension cord to reach the closest 120v outlet. You will also need to have a water resource close by so that you can easily fill your water fountain. It is challenging to move water from one spot to another. The easiest way to fill the fountain is with a nearby hose. A water fountain autofill will make your life simpler in the long run, but this requires a trained expert to install since it must be attached to an external water line.

How Much Do Pets Enjoy Water Features

If you are considering buying a water feature, make sure your pets like it.

Your stand-alone fountain may be seen as a big pool or a drinking pond by your pooch. Adding a water element to your property is a great idea, one which is certain to benefit your pets. You should consider the fact that birds may think they have found a new place to bathe when they see your fountain so think well where you put it. Install a birdbath if your aim is to draw birds to your garden. To prevent this, however, setting up a wall water fountain inside your residence is a great alternative. These types of fountains are perfect for dental and medical offices, not to mention stately homes.

Disappearing Water Fountains: A Few of the Benefits of Having one in your Backyard

The name “pondless fountain” is one other way to refer to a disappearing fountain. It is referred to as “disappearing” since the water source is below ground. Disappearing fountains should be positioned near any place people hang out regularly, as they add so much to the surrounding area. There are many varieties of them including millstones, ceramic urns, granite columns, and natural-looking waterfalls.

Disappearing fountains also come with many benefits.

There is no big pool of water that could pose a risk to anyone since the water comes from below the ground. As such, it is safe for children to play near it. Additionally, due to the fact that water is located below ground level, none of it is lost to evaporation. This means you will use less water than if you had another style of fountain. This type of fountain is ideal if you do not have a lot of time to clean it often since neither dirt nor algae can get to it underground. Finally, due to its smaller size, it is simpler to install it where you want it than other types of fountains.

The Life-Changing Benefits of Water Elements

The movement and sound of water emitted from a fountain have two benefits: cleaning the air and proving a place of relaxation and serenity, both of which will better your quality of life.

There are many positive aspects to having an indoor or outdoor water fountain which you may not even recognize.

People around the world flock to coastal cities and big bodies of water, most likely driven by the fact that our bodies have a high water content. While you could invest in an overpriced beach house or jump in the ocean every day to reap the benefits of water, getting a water feature is much easier and less costly!

Upgrade any outdoor area by adding a beautiful outdoor garden fountain. Outdoor water features can further elevate even the most enchanting space. It can be hung on the exterior wall of your house above the patio, or even on the interior wall of a screened porch. If you have a flower bed, think about installing a beautiful tiered type there to add a sense of harmony. Birds love birdbath fountains because the flowing of the water ensures that it remains clean and does not build up bacteria and algae. Finish your garden area with the peaceful sound of flowing water.

A Real Roman Marvel: The Santa Maria Waterwork in Cosmedin

Incredible discoveries of both Christian and pagan roots have been made by archaeologists and restorers in the area around Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome. Situated in the portico of the nearby basilica one can find the acclaimed marble sculpture known as the Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth). Built in 1719, the Santa Maria in Cosmedin water fountain was not well known and situated far from sight making it difficult to visit. It was said that there was very little to see in this area because it was bleak and desolate making it an unfriendly place to visit. In order to modernize the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Pope Clement XI commissioned an Italian architect by the name of Carlo Bizzaccheri to put up a water feature for the area. August 11, 1717 saw the beginning of the work to put down the foundation of the church. Medallions bearing the images of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water”, were thrown in the foundation following the consecration of the first stone.
