There are many advantages to having an indoor or exterior water fountain which you may not even recognize. People around the world flock to coastal cities and large bodies of water, most likely influenced by the fact that our bodies have a high water content. While you could invest in an extravagant beach house or plunge into the ocean every day to enjoy the benefits of water, getting a water feature is much easier and more affordable!

If you want to make your porch, patio, or back yard even more delightful, think about getting an outdoor garden fountain. You might be surprised how your beautiful outdoor space can be even more charming with one of the many outdoor water features on the market. If you have a screened porch, consider installing one there, or if not, then on the exterior wall above your patio. Turn your flower garden into an oasis of tranquility by adding a pretty tiered model. Birds love birdbath fountains because the cascading of the water ensures that it remains clean and does not accumulate bacteria and algae. Add the ultimate touch with the tranquil sound of moving water in your garden.

Water Transport Solutions in Early Rome

Previous to 273, when the 1st elevated aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was established in Rome, residents who lived on hills had to travel further down to gather their water from natural sources. Outside of these aqueducts and springs, wells and rainwater-collecting cisterns were the sole technologies obtainable at the time to supply water to locations of greater elevation. In the very early 16th century, the city began to utilize the water that flowed below ground through Acqua Vergine to deliver drinking water to Pincian Hill. The aqueduct’s channel was made available by pozzi, or manholes, that were situated along its length when it was 1st developed. Although they were initially designed to make it possible to service the aqueduct, Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi started using the manholes to collect water from the channel, commencing when he purchased the property in 1543. Apparently, the rainwater cistern on his property wasn’t adequate to fulfill his needs.

That is when he decided to create an access point to the aqueduct that ran under his residence.

A Wall Fountain to Match Your Decor

Putting a wall fountain in your yard or patio is perfect when you want to unwind. You can have one custom-built to suit your requirements even if you have a small amount of space. The requisite elements include a spout, a water basin, internal tubing, and a pump regardless of whether it is freestanding or anchored. Traditional, modern, classic, and Asian are just some of the styles from which you can consider.

Also referred to as a floor fountain, a stand-alone wall fountain is normally rather big, and its basin is installed on the ground.

You can choose to put your wall-mounted fountain on an existing wall or build it into a new wall. This style of fountain adds to a cohesive look making it seem as if it was part of the landscape rather than an added feature.

Vitalize Your Yard with the Use of Feng Shui

When applied to your yard, feng shui design will draw its healthful energy into your home as well.

When incorporating feng shui design into your yard, even a very small area is adequate. It is fabulous to have a huge space to work with, but do not worry if the area is small since you can always introduce feng shui design.

The main feng shui tools can be used for your home decor as well as your garden design. Your yard's bagua, or energy map, is an extension of your home’s bagua, so it is essential to figure out your home’s first.

In order to make the most of feng shui, it is crucial to start by understanding how to strengthen each of its five elements.

Feng shui design calls for the Earth element, for example, to be incorporated into the northeastern corner of your garden, as that area connects to self-cultivation and personal growth energy. A Zen garden with some pretty natural rocks is perfect for that spot, as the rocks epitomize the Earth element.

Southeast (money and abundance), East (health & family), and North (career & path in life) are feng shui areas ideal for a water element.

A Fabulous Example of Roman Expertise: The Santa Maria in Cosmedin Water Fountain

Both Christian and pagan relics have been found in by the load by archaeologists and restorers scouring the area of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome. The nearby basilica is largely for the marble sculpture known as the Bocca della Verità, (Mouth of Truth) located in its portico.

Since the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain (1719) was located off the beaten track, it remained mostly unknown. For the most part, visitors stayed away from the area because it was a sad and neglected part of the city. In order to modernize the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Pope Clement XI commissioned an Italian architect by the name of Carlo Bizzaccheri to create a fountain for the area. August 11, 1717 saw the beginning of the job to lay down the foundation of the church. Medals bearing the imagery of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water”, were thrown in the foundation following the blessing of the first rock.

Eye-Catching Garden Multi-Level Fountains

Gardens are popular places to showcase a tiered fountain, a style which has historically been very fashionable. You can see a lot of these fountains in Italy, Spain, and other Southern European nations. Piazzas and building courtyards are very popular places where you will see tiered fountains. While some multi-level fountains have ornate designs including sculptures or artwork, others are very simple.

Any area can be enhanced with one, although a more traditional setting is sometimes more appropriate. If done correctly, anyone seeing the fountain will assume it has been there for many years.
