Tiered Water Features for your Backyard

Fountains with more than one level are very easy to find, and popular especially in gardens. Mediterranean countries such as Italy and Spain traditionally have many tiered fountains. While they can be found anywhere, they are most prevalent in the center of building complexes and in popular areas where people gather. While some tiered fountains have sophisticated designs including sculptures or artwork, others are very basic. angel cherub__67925.original.jpg

People love to include them in areas having a classic look and feel. If done right, anyone seeing the fountain will believe it has been there for many years.

Anglo Saxon Landscapes During the Norman Conquest

The Anglo-Saxon way of life was dramatically changed by the appearance of the Normans in the later eleventh century. The expertise of the Normans exceeded the Anglo-Saxons' in architecture and agriculture at the time of the conquest. But home life, household architecture, and decoration were out of the question until the Normans taken over the entire population. Castles were more basic constructions and often erected on blustery hills, where their people devoted both time and space to exercising offense and defense, while monasteries were considerable stone buildings, regularly situated in the widest, most fertile hollows. Gardening, a peaceful occupation, was unfeasible in these fruitless fortifications. Berkeley Castle, maybe the most unspoiled style of the early Anglo-Norman style of architecture, still exists in the present day. It is said that the keep was created during William the Conqueror's time. A massive terrace serves as a deterrent to invaders who would try to mine the walls of the building. One of these terraces, a charming bowling green, is covered grass and flanked by an aged yew hedge cut into the form of crude battlements.

The Profound Benefits of Water Fountains

Your quality of life will be positively influenced by a fountain as it not only offers you a place of tranquility and calm, but also serves to clean the air.

There are many advantages to having an interior or exterior water fountain which you may not even recognize. People around the world pulled to coastal cities and big bodies of water, most likely driven by the fact that our bodies have a high water content. While there are many extravagant ways to incorporate the benefits of water into your daily life (like investing in a beach house!), a much more attainable option is to install a water feature in your home.

Your patio, porch, or back yard can be enhanced by installing an outdoor garden fountain. Even if you are already happy with your outdoor area, the addition of one of the many outdoor fountains available will make you love it even more. It can be installed on the outside wall of your house above the patio, or even on the interior wall of a screened porch. Turn your flower garden into an oasis of tranquility by adding a lovely tiered model.

Due to the nonstop movement of water in a birdbath fountain, algae and bacteria do not accumulate, and birds come flocking to the clean water. Perfect your garden area with the peaceful sound of flowing water.

Water Fountains: Fundamental in any Japanese Landscapes

You will never see a Japanese garden that does not include a water element. You will often notice Japanese water fountains in the doorway of a temple or home due to the fact that they are considered symbolic of physical and spiritual purification. Since water is supposed to be the central point of a fountain, you will find that the designs are kept very straightforward.

Many people also get a water fountain that includes a bamboo spout. The bamboo spout is placed over the basin, typically constructed of natural rocks, and water trickles out. It should have a worn-down, weathered look and feel as well. People want their fountain to seem as natural as possible, so they position plants, flowers, and stones around the fountain.

Obviously, this fountain is something more than just a basic decoration.

If you want to get a bit more imaginative, try a stone fountain embellished with live bamboo and other natural elements placed on a bed of gravel. The idea is that over time it will start to look more and more like a natural part of the landscape, as moss slowly grows over the stones.

More substantial water features can be developed if there is enough open land. Popular water feature additions are a koi pond or any sort of small pool, or even a meandering brook.

However, water does not need to be an actual element in a Japanese water fountain. Other alternatives include stones, gravel, or sand to symbolize water. In addition, flat stones can be laid out close enough together to give the illusion of a rippling brook.

The Fascinating Origin of the Outdoor Fountain

As the leader of the Catholic Church, the scholarly Pope Nicholas V (1397-1455} decided to commission translations of invaluable texts from their original Greek into Latin. He also undertook the beautification of the city to make it into the true capital of the Christian world. Beginning in 1453, he called for the reconstruction of the Acqua Vergine, a ruined Roman aqueduct which had transported clean drinking water into the city from eight miles away. Nicholas V also resurrected the Roman custom of installing imposing fountains, known as mostras, to mark the end point of the aqueduct. The fascinating background of the Trevi Fountain go back to an older fountain he had commissioned to the architect Leon Battista Alberti.

The Trevi Fountain as well as the renowned baroque fountains found in the Piazza Navona and the Piazza del Popolo were eventually supplied with water from the altered, rebuilt aqueduct.

Do Pets Enjoy Outdoor Fountains?

House pets may be wary of a new water feature so make sure to take them into consideration before buying one. Pets such as dogs may mistake your freestanding fountain with a large pool to cool off in or a pond from which to drink. Your cherished pets will probably take well to a fountain feature in your yard. Your fountain may draw in birds who think it is a great place to refresh themselves, so it is important to think about where you will place this type of water feature. Install a birdbath if your goal is to draw birds to your yard. To prevent this, however, putting in a wall water fountain inside your residence is a great option. Grand mansions, in addition to dentist’ and doctors’ offices, often have such fountains on display.
