Setting up a Water Fountain In Smaller Backyards

Since water is reflective, it has the effect of making a small space appear bigger than it is. Dark materials alter the reflective properties of a fountain or water feature. win730__28140.jpg When the sun goes down, you can use underwater lights in a variety of colors and shapes to light up your new feature. Solar powered eco-lights are great during the day and underwater lights are perfect for nighttime use. Often utilized in natural therapies, they help to reduce anxiety and tension with their calming sounds.

Water just mixes into the greenery in your backyard. Turn your water feature such as a pond, artificial river, or fountain to become the core piece of your backyard. The versatility of water features is that they can be set up in large backyards as well as in small verandas. The most appropriate accessories and the best location for it are important if you want to better the atmosphere.

Consider Buying a Contained Water Feature for Your Backyard

Self-Contained fountains are inexpensive and quick to install and are therefore in demand. Since all components are included with the fountain, no extra parts are required. Yet another name for a fountain having its own water source is referred to as “self-contained”.

Since they do not involve much work to set up, self-contained fountains are perfect for patios and porches. Their mobility is also an advantage, as they are very easy to move around.

The place you want to put your fountain will need to be even, so your landscaper will need to first determine if this is the case. Any holes and bumps can quickly be leveled by your landscaper. Your water feature is now ready for placement and the addition of water. The last thing left to do is to connect it to a power source such as batteries, a wall socket, or a solar panel, and it will be operational.

The best option for anyone who wants mobility and does not want to use external plumbing or water source is a self-contained fountain. The center of a garden is a favorite spot for a water fountain so as to get the most visibility, even though they can be put anywhere.

A variety of popular materials can be used for fountains including cast stone, metal, ceramic, and fiberglass.

The Perfect Multi-Level Water Feature for your Garden

Fountains with multiple tiers can be seen just about anywhere and have been featured in gardens for ages. These types of fountains are common in Italy, Spain, and other Mediterranean countries. While they can be located anywhere, they are most typical in the center of building complexes and in popular areas where people gather. Tiered fountains come in a wide array of designs, from elaborately carved styles to relatively basic types.

Although they can be found just about anywhere, they seem particularly at home in more classic surroundings. It should appear as if the fountain has been part of the environment since the beginning and should blend in accordingly.

Select from Many Exterior Wall Fountain Designs

Small verandas or courtyards are an ideal place to set up wall fountains since they add style to an area with limited space. The myriad of designs in outdoor wall fountains, including traditional, classic, contemporary, or Asian, means that you can find the one suitable to your wishes. Your tastes determine the type you buy so while there may not be a prefabricated fountain to suit you, you do have the option of having a custom made one.

There are two distinct sorts of fountains you can buy: mounted and stand-alone. You can hang a mounted wall fountain because they are small and self-contained. Fountains of this type need to be lightweight, therefore, they are typically fabricated from resin (resembling stone) or fiberglass. In large free-standing fountains, otherwise known as wall fountains, the basin is set on the ground with the flat side positioned against a wall. Water features such as these are usually made of cast stone and have no weight limits.

Many qualified landscapers prefer custom-built fountains which can be incorporated into a brand-new wall or an existing one. The basin and all the necessary plumbing are best installed by a trained mason. The wall will have to have a spout or fountain mask incorporated into it. The cohesive look produced by customized wall fountains make them appear to be part of the scenery instead of an afterthought.

Santa Maria in Cosmedin: A Roman Fountain Worthy of Visiting

Both Christian and pagan relics have been found in large quantities by archaeologists and restorers searching the area of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome. The celebrated marble sculpture called the Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth) is located in the portico of the basilica nearby. The location of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain (1719) was not in a well-known area and was, therefore, not oftentimes visited. It was said that there was nothing worth seeing in this area because it was abject and abandoned making it an unfriendly place to visit. It was then that the Italian architect Carlo Bizzaccheri was commissioned by Pope Clement XI to erect a water fountain in the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in an attempt to make the area more popular. Work on the church's foundation started on on August 11, 1717. The first stone to be placed in the foundation was blessed and medallions bearing the images of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water, were also thrown in.

The One Cleaning Solution to NEVER Use On Your Water Wall Fountains

Water fountains will keep working a very long time with routine cleaning and maintenance. It is easy for foreign objects to find their way into open-air fountains, so keeping it clean is vital. Another factor is that water that is subjected to sunlight is susceptible to growing algae. Either sea salt, hydrogen peroxide, or vinegar can be dissolved into the water to prevent this issue.

Bleach can also be put into the water, but this is not the ideal option because it can sicken birds or other animals.

An extensive cleaning every three-four months is ideal for garden fountains. Before you can start washing it you need to empty out all of the water. Once it is empty, clean inside the reservoir with a gentle cleanser. A useful tip is to use a toothbrush if there are tiny hard-to-reach spots. Any soap residue left on your fountain can damage it, so be sure it is all rinsed off.

Make sure you get rid of any calcium or plankton by taking the pump apart and cleaning the inside thoroughly. You might want to let it soak in vinegar for a few hours to make it much less difficult to scrub. Build-up can be a big problem, so use mineral or rain water over tap water, when possible, to prevent this dilemma.

Lastly, make sure your fountain is always full by checking on it every day - this will keep it in tip-top shape. Low water levels can damage the pump - and you do not want that!
