Outdoor Water Features: Installment Tips

Two things many people ignore when planning the installation of a garden fountain is a convenient water source and an electrical outlet in close proximity. 230_houndstooth_closed__83927.jpg The thrill of owning one occasionally causes people to forget the technical aspects when setting it up for the first time. Do not forget that an extension cord can be useful if your 120v power source is more than 12 feet away, as that is the typical length of power cords. You will also need to have a water source close by so that you can easily fill your water fountain. Carrying large amounts of water requires strength so you do not want to have to lug it a long distance. The easiest way to fill the fountain is with a nearby water hose. The ideal setup is with a water fountain autofill, but this has to be attached to an external water line and requires a professional to install it.

The Pull of Tiered Water Features

For many years now now, multi-tiered fountains have been popular, most notably in gardens. The nations in the southern region of Europe tend to have a lot of these types of fountains. The courtyards of buildings and communal areas are just two the areas you might see one. While some multi-level fountains have intricate designs including sculptures or artwork, others are very basic.

Traditional or classic surroundings are perfect places for them. It should seem as if the fountain has been part of the environment since the beginning and should blend in accordingly.

Animals and Outdoor Water Fountains

If you are thinking about installing a water feature, make sure your pets like it. A pet dog or cat could think that a stand-alone fountain is a big pool or a drinking pond. Your pets will not be negatively influenced if you add a wall fountain to your yard. Give some thought to the best spot to put your fountain if you do not want birds to use it as a bathing pond. Install a birdbath if your objective is to draw birds to your garden. To prevent this, however, setting up a wall water fountain inside your home is a great alternative.

It is common to find these kinds of fountains in dental or medical workplaces as well as in lavish homes.

The Influence of the Norman Invasion on Anglo Saxon Garden Design

The Anglo-Saxon way of life was drastically changed by the appearance of the Normans in the later eleventh century. The Normans were better than the Anglo-Saxons at architecture and horticulture when they came into power. But before focusing on home-life or having the occasion to consider domestic architecture or decoration, the Normans had to subjugate an entire population. Most often constructed upon windy peaks, castles were straightforward constructs that allowed their inhabitants to spend time and space to offensive and defensive programs, while monasteries were rambling stone buildings generally placed in only the most fecund, broad valleys. The calm practice of gardening was unrealistic in these dreary bastions. Berkeley Castle, maybe the most uncorrupted model of the early Anglo-Norman style of architecture, still exists in the present day. The keep is reported to have been invented during the time of William the Conqueror. A large terrace recommended for strolling and as a means to stop enemies from mining under the walls runs about the building. One of these terraces, a charming bowling green, is covered grass and flanked by an aged yew hedge cut into the shape of crude battlements.

Reasons to Think About Putting in a Pondless Water Feature in your Backyard

There are two names for this kind of fountain: “disappearing” and “pondless”. The origin of the water is not visible because it is below the surface of the ground. An ideal place for a disappearing fountain is anywhere that gets steady foot traffic, as it adds lovely visual and sound effects to the environment. There are many varieties of them including millstones, ceramic urns, granite columns, and natural-looking waterfalls.

There are many reasons to give some thought to getting a disappearing fountain. Any danger to anyone standing around it is eliminated since the water source is beneath ground level. This means that children can safely play around it. Evaporating water is also not an issue since the water source is not out in the open. This means you will lose less water than if you had another kind of fountain. It is extremely low-maintenance since it is underground and not exposed to dirt or algae. Finally, you can install one just about anywhere given that it takes up so little room.

Early Water Supply Solutions in The City Of Rome

Rome’s first raised aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was built in 273 BC; prior to that, citizens residing at higher elevations had to rely on natural streams for their water.

Outside of these aqueducts and springs, wells and rainwater-collecting cisterns were the sole techniques available at the time to supply water to segments of high elevation. Starting in the sixteenth century, a brand new strategy was introduced, using Acqua Vergine’s subterranean sections to supply water to Pincian Hill. As originally constructed, the aqueduct was provided along the length of its channel with pozzi (manholes) constructed at regular intervals. Whilst these manholes were provided to make it less difficult to sustain the aqueduct, it was also feasible to use containers to extract water from the channel, which was utilized by Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi from the time he obtained the property in 1543 to his death in 1552. Apparently, the rainwater cistern on his property wasn’t good enough to meet his needs. That is when he decided to create an access point to the aqueduct that ran directly below his residence.
