Choose from all Types of Exterior Fountains

Make your dream a reality by creating an oasis of tranquility in your yard. Add a feeling of peace to your garden with an outdoor fountain and avail yourself of all the positive benefits of a water feature.

Sending a stream of water straight into the air, spouting fountains leave a striking impression. 526_floral_open_both__24511.jpg It is doable to have one of these fitted into an existing, ample pond. Esplanades and historical mansions often have one these fountains.

One of the myriad examples of an outdoor water feature is a classy wall fountain. Such water features make for a fantastic addition to your yard even if it is small. Whereas spouting fountains leave behind an impressive effect, wall fountains are rather understated water features. In this straightforward process, water is ejected from a little spout, runs down a beautifully textured wall, before being received at the bottom and returned to the top once again.

Dependent on the design you have chosen for the garden, you could contemplate a themed fountain. In a rustic themed bungalow or garden, a traditional styled statue for your fountain could include cherubs holding the spout. Something special and bold could be an alternative for more modern gardens. Choosing what to do is completely in your hands.

Tiered fountains are unique because the water flows down multiple levels. Cascading fountains is another term used to identify this type of fountain because water moves down multiple levels.

Since external fountains occupy ample space, consider putting in a wall fountain or a pondless fountain. Since the reservoirs required for these kinds of fountains are hidden below the ground, you can make the most of the room at your disposal.

If you seek a feeling of peacefulness and calmness, put in a Japanese fountain as these are considered to bring about such sensations. Bamboo sticks act as the piping from which water flows in these kinds of water features. The repetition of water streaming into a bucket or shaped stone is one of the main attributes of this kind of fountain.

Glass fountains make up another group of fountain. Featuring shaped metalwork, trellis-style fountains of this type have a more traditional feel. However, this type of water feature is better suited to backyard gardens with many sharp corners as well as modern-day forms and design. As the water moves over the surface of the glass it produces a dazzling effect. Colored LED lights are also included in some fountains to illuminate the water as it progresses down the sheet of glass. Often made of imitation rock, stone waterfall fountains have water slowly trickling down its surface.

The characteristic which distinguishes a bubbling rock fountain is a large rock drilled with holes where pipes can be inserted into its middle. The bubbling and gurgling at the topmost part of this type of fountain are brought on by the water being pushed upward at low pressure. Water then streams as a delicate trickle down the sides of the rock to its base. Small gardens are ideal for this type of fountain.

Water is moved at low pressure in this kind of fountain, so you can be assured knowing that it will not spray all over should the wind pick up.

Solar powered fountains have become more popular recently because they run on sunlight. There are numerous reasons for this newly found interest such as the absence of cables, less difficulty in running them, a decrease in electricity bills, and the advantages to the environment. It is not necessary to settle on a specific model of outdoor solar-powered fountain because of the wide variety of designs found on the market.

How a Water Fountain Can Make Your Environment Better

The movement and sound of water emitted from a fountain have two benefits: cleaning the air and proving a place of relaxation and tranquility, both of which will better your quality of life.

You might be surprised to learn of all the advantages of being around an indoor or outdoor garden fountain. Water makes up a large percentage of our body constitution, and populations world-wide tend to gravitate towards coastal areas. Water is required for life, and a water feature can provide the benefits of water in a convenient and affordable way.

Your patio, porch, or back yard can be improved by setting up an outdoor garden fountain. Outdoor water features can further enhance even the most enchanting space. A terrific idea is to put one on the wall of your screened porch, or perhaps outside as part of your outdoor decor. If you have a flower bed, consider installing a beautiful tiered model there to add a feeling of peace. You will notice lots of birds visiting your garden if you put in a birdbath fountain, as the water stays fresher than still water since it is continuously flowing. The final detail your garden area needs to be a haven of peace is the sound of flowing water.

A True Roman Marvel: The Santa Maria Waterwork in Cosmedin

Incredible finds of both Christian and pagan roots have been made by archaeologists and restorers in the area of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome. The famed marble sculpture known as the Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth) can be seen in the portico of the basilica nearby. Built in 1719, the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain was not well known and situated far from sight making it difficult to visit. For the most part, people stayed away from the area because it was a drab and neglected part of the city.

In order to modernize the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Pope Clement XI commissioned an Italian architect by the name of Carlo Bizzaccheri to put up a water feature for the area. August 11. 1717 was when work on the church’s infrastructure began. After blessing of the first stone, medallions bearing the images of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water, were tossed into the foundation.

A Back Story of Water Fountains

Countless of classic Greek documents were translated into Latin under the authority of the scholarly Pope Nicholas V who led the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455. Continuing in his quest to make the city worthy of being called the capital of the Christian world, he decided to enhance the beauty of the city as well. Beginning in 1453, he called for the restoration of the Acqua Vergine, a wrecked Roman aqueduct which had transported clean drinking water into the city from eight miles away. The mostra, a monumental commemorative fountain constructed by ancient Romans to mark the point of arrival of an aqueduct, was a custom also revived by Nicholas V. At his bidding, the architect Leon Battista Alberti began the construction of a wall fountain in the place where the magnificent Trevi Fountain now stands. The modifications, as well as the extensions included in the restored aqueduct, eventually made it possible to provide the Trevi Fountain and the well-known baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona with the necessary water to function.

Striking Garden Multi-Level Water Elements

Fountains with multiple levels can be seen just about anywhere and have been featured in gardens for many years. You can find a lot of these fountains in Italy, Spain, and other Southern European nations. The courtyards of buildings and communal areas are just a couple the places you might see one. While some tiered fountains have sophisticated designs including sculptures or artwork, others are very basic.

Although they can be seen just about anywhere, they seem particularly at home in more classic environments. If done right, anyone seeing the fountain will assume it has been there for a long time.
